Health Education & Promotion

The organization conducts health education to all demographics and populations. We conduct education concerning infectious disease, particularly HIV/AIDS, as well as other chronic medical illnesses and mental health disorders. We recognize that at-risk and vulnerable populations need special consideration, and so we provide information and resource material through social media, print media, radio, television, and outreaches as part of our activities.

We also provide resources such as condoms, educational leaflets, and links to resource persons and hospitals. We acknowledge that information evolves, and that ongoing engagement is essential to ensuring that people have the right understanding of disease and the right information and resources for prevention. Knowledge is a powerful tool against stigma concerning some diseases, and we aim to do this with education.

HIV Testing & Counselling

IHA recognizes that one of the cornerstones of the fight against the HIV pandemic is prevention. The spread of the virus can only be stopped if people possess the requisite information on how to protect themselves against the virus. Our team of experienced, compassionate, and hardworking healthcare workers is committed to expanding the numbers of people who have been tested for HIV. This ensures that our database of the prevalence of HIV can be a little bit more accurate and up to date, leading to better outcomes.

We partner closely with the Ghana AIDS Commission to provide free voluntary counselling and testing. Based on our mission, we focus on a more targeted testing, and this involves testing at-risk groups and key populations, and some vulnerable populations such as young girls particularly from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds.

Youth Leadership

We are a youth-led organization. Young people present ideas, develop programs and projects, lead implementation, and seek and maintain partnerships for this organization. IHA therefore has as part of its leadership, membership, and volunteer groups, a wide variety of backgrounds of young people. All the work at IHA is being done by these young people, and so they gain a wealth of experience as they navigate the world of not-for-profit organizations, public health, health policy, project management, and research.

Advocacy

Advocacy remains at the core of what IHA does. We recognize that there are so many groups that either need a voice, or do not have easy access to the right information concerning their health and healthcare needs. We provide information through our social media, outreaches, and we add our voice to advocate on the needs on populations that are at a higher risk of being affected by sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS, mental health conditions, and other chronic medical conditions.
